Victoria Monét is returning with Frequency of Love, a 22-track album that expands her sound while keeping R&B, intimacy and deliberate songwriting at the center.

The album arrives Friday, three years after the Grammy-winning Jaguar II. It includes appearances by Bruno Mars, SZA, Bryson Tiller, Leon Thomas and Chlöe Bailey, bringing together several generations of modern R&B voices.

A broader definition of love

Monét has described the project as a record about more than romance. Its themes include dating, self-respect, motherhood, gratitude and the kind of world she hopes her daughter will inherit.

The singles show the range. “Reach Out” leans into house music, “Juicy” draws from yacht R&B, and the slow jam “Let Me” reached No. 1 on Billboard’s adult R&B airplay chart before the full album’s release.

The project also makes intentional connections to 1990s R&B. “Almost” references Brandy’s “Almost Doesn’t Count,” while “For You” reimagines Kenny Lattimore’s romantic ballad. Those choices are not simple nostalgia. They place Monét’s new work in conversation with songs that helped define emotional storytelling for an earlier audience.

Growth after the Grammys

Monét won three Grammys in 2024, including best new artist and best R&B album. That success changed expectations. She has spoken about moving from an underdog position into a stage where every creative choice attracts sharper praise and criticism.

Rather than repeat Jaguar II, Monét says she wanted to take risks. She drew inspiration from the artistic leap Michael Jackson made between Off the Wall and Thriller, while making clear that she was not comparing her album’s commercial prospects to Jackson’s landmark release.

Creativity outside the recording studio

During the break between albums, Monét completed culinary school at the top of her class. She has said that international music, food and the fellowship of preparing meals influenced the atmosphere around the new record.

She is also interested in writing for scripted television and film, including comedy. A 27-city North American tour is scheduled to begin in late October.

What is confirmed and what is interpretation

The release date, track count, collaborators, chart performance and tour plans are confirmed. Whether Frequency of Love becomes a defining R&B album will be decided by listeners and time. Descriptions of its artistic importance are criticism, not fact.

Onyx’s perspective: The most interesting part of Monét’s return is her refusal to treat success as a reason to stop experimenting. For a TalkLife audience raised on 1990s R&B, the album offers a bridge: familiar emotional detail and melodic tradition, carried forward by an artist determined to make the sound her own.
