At least 11 people were injured when a gunman opened fire near a vocational and technical high school in western Turkey, according to government officials.
Two victims were reported in serious condition. Authorities arrested a student suspected of using a shotgun taken from a relative’s home in the Turgutlu district of Manisa province.
The motive remains under investigation
Officials have not established a motive. Investigators are examining reports involving bullying, but those reports have not been confirmed as the cause of the attack.
The suspect’s parents and grandfather were also detained as authorities investigate access to the weapon and the circumstances preceding the shooting. Detention does not itself establish criminal responsibility.
Renewed concern about school security
The shooting caused panic among families and renewed questions about school security and young people’s access to firearms. Turkish authorities had already increased security at schools following earlier shootings this year.
Responsible coverage should focus on the victims, the investigation and verified safety questions rather than amplifying the suspected shooter’s identity or unproven explanations.
