JACKSONVILLE — The next phase of Riverfront Plaza is becoming clearer on paper, with approved plans showing a restaurant, beer garden, central lawn and 14 bench-style swings overlooking the St. Johns River.

Jacksonville Today’s October 23 report, by Jacksonville Daily Record reporter Ric Anderson, also describes a rooftop walkway linking the park toward a new pedestrian connection to the Main Street Bridge. The city targets completion by the end of 2027.

A plan describes the intended experience

The drawings offer a useful basis for discussing how residents might use the waterfront. They do not establish that the listed facilities are open or that the target date is guaranteed.

For families, workers and visitors, the practical questions extend beyond a rendering: how easy will it be to reach the space, find seating, move through it with limited mobility and use it comfortably at different times of year?

Those questions can guide a public conversation without assuming an answer the plans have not yet demonstrated. Shade, accessibility, maintenance and programming should be evaluated through the project’s final details and eventual operation.

The distinction is straightforward: approved design features are a documented step forward, while a finished public space is a later milestone. Readers planning a visit should use current park information rather than assume the next phase has already arrived.
