Oil prices moved slightly higher as traders watched for possible talks between the United States and Iran during the United Nations General Assembly.

Brent crude traded near $100.57 per barrel, while U.S. benchmarks also edged upward. Analysts described the movement as cautious positioning rather than evidence that a diplomatic breakthrough is imminent.

Signals without an agreement

President Donald Trump has expressed openness to meeting Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. Iran has reportedly communicated negotiating conditions through intermediaries.

No formal meeting, ceasefire or agreement has been confirmed. Regional tensions remain high as Iran-backed Houthi forces attack Saudi targets and shipping routes face continuing security risks.

Why markets react early

Commodity markets price future expectations as well as present supply. Even the possibility of reduced fighting can influence oil contracts before diplomats reach an agreement.

Those movements do not guarantee lower gasoline or diesel prices. Refining capacity, shipping costs, inventories and local market conditions also determine what consumers pay.
