A medical flight carrying six people disappeared from contact on its journey from Bermuda to Boston early Saturday, October 3, prompting a Coast Guard search near Nantucket.
The Federal Aviation Administration alerted the Coast Guard after losing contact with the Gulfstream jet. Aircraft and surface crews were dispatched to search the waters off Massachusetts, Reuters reported, citing the agency.
The Associated Press identified the aircraft as a Canadian-registered Gulfstream G100. Bermuda airport operator Skyport said four crew members and two passengers had departed L.F. Wade International Airport aboard the air ambulance.
Bermuda’s Royal Gazette reported that personnel from Air Station Cape Cod, Station Brant Point and the cutter William Sparling were involved. That response brings air and sea resources to the same search area while authorities work to locate the aircraft.
The status of the people aboard remained unknown in the reports reviewed for this update. There was no confirmed explanation for the loss of contact. The National Transportation Safety Board said it was gathering information.
For families awaiting answers, the distinction between a missing aircraft and a confirmed fatal accident matters. Neither the search announcement nor the absence of communication establishes what happened to those aboard.
This is a developing story. Confirmed findings from search crews and updates from aviation authorities will determine the next stage of reporting; speculation about mechanical failure, weather or crew actions is premature.
