The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is operating from a new Riverside Avenue headquarters, a move that brings expanded emergency facilities and a practical reminder for residents: check the location of the service you need before making a trip.

The agency’s official contact page now lists headquarters at 532 Riverside Avenue, Jacksonville, FL 32202. That is different from the longtime East Bay Street headquarters familiar to many residents.

Action News Jax reported the October 20 ribbon-cutting at the former Florida Blue building. The agency had been based at 501 East Bay Street since 1977.

What the new facility contains

The station’s tour identified an expanded 911 command center, a Real Time Crime Center, a strategic communications floor and a dedicated sheriff’s briefing room. It also described a public services building supporting police reports, recruitment, fingerprinting and polygraph services.

JSO demonstrated drones that can provide an aerial view of emergency calls before officers arrive. Officials say the technology can improve response and help de-escalation. Those are the agency’s stated objectives; the opening itself does not prove a measurable reduction in response times or use of force.

Use the right contact for the need

For emergencies, JSO’s instructions remain to call 911. Its published non-emergency number is 904-630-0500, and general information is available at 904-630-7600.

The headquarters address should not be assumed to be the entrance for every public transaction or a substitute for a unit’s specific instructions. Before seeking records, fingerprinting or another in-person service, residents can confirm the location and requirements through the official directory.

This is a public-service follow-up to this week’s opening, rather than a report that the move happened overnight. Whether the expanded facilities produce the improvements promised by the agency will require evidence from their operation.
