Jacksonville residents are being warned about people posing as JEA employees and offering to test household water for arsenic.

JEA told Action News Jax that the door-to-door activity is a scam and that the utility is not conducting those tests. The warning was reported Saturday evening, October 3.

The utility said its contractors carry proper identification and employees arrange appointments before arriving at customers’ homes. A visitor’s claim to represent JEA is therefore something residents can verify rather than accept at the doorstep.

The warning concerns impersonation. It is not evidence that a particular customer’s water contains arsenic, and the visitors’ sales claims should not be presented as an official water-quality finding.

That distinction matters because an alarming claim about drinking water can pressure someone into making a quick decision. The legitimate starting point is the utility’s own information and customer-service channels.

JEA maintains a scam-information page explaining how customers can protect themselves and their account information. Residents can consult that resource before responding to an unexpected utility-related request.

If someone arrives without an appointment offering the described test, independently contact JEA through its official website or the contact information on your bill. Use those established channels rather than a number supplied by the visitor.

TalkLife News is reporting the utility’s warning so residents can recognize the specific approach and check the facts before granting access or sharing information.
