JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Two separate Halloween-party shootings early Sunday left two people dead and at least 11 others injured, according to police accounts reported by local news organizations. Investigators are asking people who attended the gatherings to provide firsthand information and cellphone video.

The violence occurred more than two hours apart, first outside a party venue on Arlington Expressway and later near Wilcox and Fifth streets in Durkeeville. The available reporting describes separate investigations; it does not establish a connection between them.

A teenager killed in Arlington

Officers responded at about 1:42 a.m. November 1 to the area outside the Regency Inn, where a 17-year-old girl was killed and two other people were wounded, according to News4JAX’s report, updated at 12:45 a.m. November 2.

Police believe an argument among people waiting to enter the party escalated into gunfire. Investigators said the three victims appeared to be unintended targets who were not involved in the dispute. That is a preliminary investigative assessment, rather than a finding made in court.

One wounded person was reported stable; the latest News4JAX update did not give a condition for the other surviving victim. It reported that no suspects were in custody.

Nine wounded in the second shooting

At about 3:50 a.m., officers responded near Wilcox and Fifth streets. A 20-year-old man who was wounded there later died at a hospital, according to News4JAX’s November 1 account.

Nine other people were wounded, including a 15-year-old girl reported in stable condition. The other injured people were ages 20 to 25. One woman was reported to have life-threatening injuries.

Police described a large house party spilling into the street and two volleys of gunfire. Investigators had not determined how many people fired, the report said. Action News Jax’s Sunday evening coverage independently reported the combined toll and the appeal for witnesses.

Information investigators are seeking

Anyone with information can contact the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office at 904-630-0500 or Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS. Police have specifically sought accounts and videos from people who were present.

The casualty counts and medical conditions reflect the cited reports available early Monday and may change. Neither the circumstances of the gunfire nor responsibility for it should be treated as settled while investigators continue gathering evidence.
