Tallahassee police announced a teenage suspect’s arrest after a shooting near Florida A&M University’s homecoming gathering left a dozen people injured, including children.
WFSU’s October 26 report, carrying the police announcement, said a 15-year-old faced attempted second-degree murder and firearm-possession charges. The shooting occurred Saturday, October 24, near Bragg Memorial Stadium following the homecoming football game.
The arrest is a confirmed procedural development. It is not a conviction, and the accusations must be attributed to investigators. TalkLife is not identifying the minor in this report.
Beyond the arrest announcement
A separate WUSF report on students’ return to class described the university’s counseling response and President Marva Johnson’s attention to students’ well-being. That earlier report preceded the arrest announcement; its initial statement that no arrest had been announced was overtaken by the later police update.
The distinction matters when multiple accounts circulate at once. A report can be accurate at publication and still require an update as investigators release new information.
A careful account of what follows
Families need clear information about the investigation, but an arrest does not answer every question about the shooting or the recovery of those injured. Claims about motive, responsibility and the complete sequence of events should be tied to evidence and attributed official findings.
For the wider FAMU community, recovery also extends beyond a criminal case. The availability of counseling is relevant news in its own right; people affected by a frightening gathering should not have to wait for court proceedings before seeking support.
This catch-up report is published October 28 and reflects the cited October 26 reporting. It makes no unsupported claim about the victims’ current medical conditions.
