A video showing a person atop a military jet has circulated as evidence that students attacked an Indian airbase. Soch Fact Check’s October 4 investigation identified a campus protest instead.
The aircraft is a decommissioned MiG-23UM displayed at Lovely Professional University in Phagwara, Punjab. Its presence does not make the location an operational airbase.
Soch compared reverse-image search results with campus photographs and a September 27 report from The Tribune. University imagery and older photographs helped establish the aircraft’s setting.
The protest followed an alleged rape. That allegation should not be treated as a conviction, and it does not change where the video was filmed.
The misleading element is the caption: footage of a campus disturbance became a claim about an attack on military infrastructure. Soch did not identify the scene as AI-generated.
Before sharing, check location as well as upload date. Older photographs, buildings and emblems can expose a false caption. This clip is not evidence of an airbase attack and should not be confused with today’s separate voter-roll demonstrations.
