Two men were hospitalized after an attack outside a Brooklyn Burger King on Saturday night, police told ABC7.

The incident happened around 9:03 p.m. October 3 near 65th Street and 14th Avenue in Dyker Heights. Police said two unidentified suspects struck two 36-year-old men with hammers.

Both victims suffered head lacerations and reached NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn by private means. They were reported in stable condition.

The suspects fled north along 14th Avenue, according to the report. No arrests had been announced when ABC7 published its Sunday morning update.

The account remains part of an ongoing investigation. The report does not establish a motive or explain what preceded the assault, so speculation about those details would go beyond the available evidence.

For residents near the location, the immediate story is a serious attack and the search for those responsible. One incident cannot, on its own, demonstrate whether crime across Brooklyn is increasing or decreasing.

The reported stable condition is an important qualification, although it does not diminish the seriousness of head injuries. Any changes in the victims’ condition or the investigation should be attributed to updated official information.
