Drake reportedly will not put his latest solo releases into the 2027 Grammy race. Sources speaking to Billboard said he did not submit Iceman, Maid of Honour or Habibti, or their songs, for consideration.

The report continues a longer disagreement between the rapper and the awards institution. Billboard notes that he withdrew his Certified Lover Boy nominations ahead of the 2022 ceremony and has not submitted a solo album since. His history with collaborative projects is different, making a blanket claim that he never participates inaccurate.

The wording deserves attention. A reported decision not to submit music is different from a rejection by Grammy voters. It also cannot establish whether those recordings would have earned nominations or awards.

For hip-hop listeners, the story opens a familiar question: who gets to decide when music has mattered? Industry recognition, the connection between artist and audience, and a record’s place in everyday life are different ways of discussing success.

Those judgments belong to criticism and conversation. The factual news here is narrower: Billboard reports that the three albums and their songs were not submitted.

Fans can debate whether awards still carry cultural authority without turning that debate into an unsupported claim about the Academy’s handling of these particular recordings.
