A 33-year-old delivery worker remained hospitalized in critical condition after a driver struck him in Crown Heights and left the scene, according to an October 21 evening report by WABC. Police were still searching for the driver in the station’s latest account.
The collision happened at about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, October 20. WABC reported that surveillance footage captured a white 2026 Hyundai Elantra striking the cyclist and the driver leaving without stopping.
The injured man was described as a DoorDash delivery worker. TalkLife has not independently obtained the surveillance recording or a subsequent hospital update. The report reviewed for this article does not identify a charged suspect.
Safety concerns extend beyond one delivery
Transportation Alternatives representative Alexa Sledge told WABC the collision underscored the need for safer conditions for delivery workers. That is an advocate’s policy assessment; it does not establish the specific cause of this crash.
The distinction matters while an investigation remains open. A video showing a collision can document part of an event without resolving every question about the moments before it. Police identification of a driver and any charges would be further developments, not assumptions that can be made from the vehicle description.
Practical information for street users
The New York City Department of Transportation’s cycling guide advises riders to be particularly careful around large turning vehicles and their blind spots, and to use a white front light and red rear light at night.
Those are general safety recommendations, not findings about what this cyclist did or what caused his injuries. The central unresolved questions remain the driver’s identity and the worker’s condition.
Developing story. The accompanying photograph shows an archival Crown Heights neighborhood view, not the crash site or the injured worker.
