Brooklyn riders heading into Manhattan this weekend need to plan around a break in one of the borough’s busiest cross-river connections.

L-train service between Lorimer Street in Brooklyn and Eighth Avenue in Manhattan is suspended in both directions from 11:15 p.m. Friday, October 2, until 5 a.m. Monday, October 5. Crews are installing communications equipment and performing track maintenance.

The interruption affects October 3 and 4 travel, including work shifts, appointments and weekend visits. The same closure is also scheduled for October 9–12.

Free T422 shuttle buses provide Brooklyn connections serving Lorimer Street/Metropolitan Avenue, Bedford Avenue, Marcy Avenue, Hewes Street and Broadway. In Manhattan, L92 shuttle and M14A buses provide alternatives along the affected corridor.

Subway transfers offer another option. Riders can consider the A or J at Broadway Junction, depending on their destination, while extended M service offers another route between Brooklyn and Manhattan. The most useful substitute depends on where a trip begins and ends.

A replacement bus is not a minute-for-minute substitute for a train ride. Allow time for walking to a shuttle stop, waiting and transferring, especially if arrival time matters.

Before leaving, check the MTA’s live service information rather than relying on a familiar route or an old screenshot. The essential distinction is geographic: this is a suspension of the Lorimer-to-Eighth Avenue section, not a statement that every part of the L line is closed.
