Traffic resumed on the Brooklyn Bridge after an anti-Immigration and Customs Enforcement demonstration interrupted travel Wednesday afternoon and police took 14 people into custody.

News 12 reported October 28 that the NYPD responded around 12:34 p.m. to a group of approximately 30 people. Police said demonstrators blocked vehicle and pedestrian traffic and were taken into custody without incident. The report did not identify their charges.

WABC’s updated account put the arrests at about 14 and reported that all lanes reopened shortly before 1:30 p.m. The demonstrators said they were responding to the earlier ICE shooting in Marble Hill and calling for the agency to leave New York City.

An afternoon disruption, not a current closure

For Brooklyn residents catching up Thursday morning, the essential service detail is the reopening. A photograph or clip from Wednesday’s protest should not be circulated as evidence that the bridge remains blocked today.

The two local reports describe the disruption using different directional wording. The common verified account is that the demonstration affected bridge traffic and police made arrests before travel resumed. This report does not turn those differing descriptions into a lane-by-lane traffic advisory.

Keep the protest and the underlying case distinct

The demonstrators’ stated reason explains why they gathered. It does not independently establish every disputed detail of the earlier shooting. Likewise, an arrest during the demonstration is not a conviction and does not determine the merits of the group’s policy demands.

For readers following the debate through short clips, dates and attribution do important work. Police statements describe their response; demonstrators describe their aims; reporting on the shooting is a separate evidentiary record.

The confirmed development is a completed Wednesday disruption with arrests and restored traffic. Further information about charges or court appearances should be reported when documented, rather than inferred from images of people being taken into custody.
